Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Cutaway does with your information. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

Your projects and your footage live on your device. Cutaway has no account system and does not upload your library.

Three things do leave your device, and only when you use the features that need them: sampled frames when you ask the AI agent to work on a video, audio or text when you use captions or generated voiceover, and diagnostic data about how the app is performing.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your footage to train models.

What stays on your device

Imported video and photos, the projects you build from them, and the files you export. These are stored in the app's own storage and are not transmitted to us.

Deleting a project, or uninstalling the app, removes them.

What leaves your device, and when

Sampled video frames, when you use the AI agent. To decide what is in your footage, the agent extracts still frames and sends them to a third-party AI provider ([AI PROVIDER]) for analysis. It sends frames, not whole video files, and only from the clips in the project you are working on. It does this only when you ask it to.

Audio or text, when you use captions or voiceover. Generating captions or a spoken voiceover sends the relevant audio or script to a third-party speech provider ([SPEECH PROVIDER]).

Diagnostic data, always while the app runs. Crash reports and basic usage and performance data, collected through [ANALYTICS PROVIDER], so we can find faults. This is about the app's behaviour, not about the content of your videos.

Who processes it

The providers named above process this data on our behalf under their own terms. We choose providers that do not use content submitted through their APIs to train their models, and we do not grant them rights to your footage.

We will name each provider specifically in this policy. Where you see a placeholder in square brackets, that name has not yet been finalised and this policy is not yet complete.

Permissions the app asks for

Photos and media — to import the footage you choose and to save your exports. Cutaway reads only what you select.

Camera — only if you record inside the app.

Microphone — only if you record a voiceover.

How long it is kept

Frames and audio sent for processing are retained only as long as the provider needs to return a result, subject to that provider's own retention period.

Diagnostic data is kept in aggregate for as long as it is useful for diagnosing faults.

Because there is no account, we hold no profile of you to delete.

Children

Cutaway is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing.

Since Cutaway holds your content on your own device and operates no account, most of these are exercised directly by deleting content in the app. For anything else, contact us at support@cutaway.design.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the app's data practices change, and revise the date below when we do. Material changes will be signalled in the app.
